NOBLE DEED BY HEYDAR ALIYEV FOUNDATION
“For the second year in a row this noble action is initiated by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva,” said Head of Baku Health Board Leila Seyidmamedova addressing a ceremony of handing over medicines and New Year gifts to children suffering from diabetes. During the event, 217 children registered in capital’s clinics got insulin and special syringe-pens.
According to Health Ministry’s data, there are 59 thousand diabetics in Azerbaijan, of whom 18 thousand are suffering from its severest insulin-dependent form. For the time being, 444 of the patients are children, and 298 are adolescents.
The Law “On Governmental Care for People Suffering from Diabetes” adopted in Azerbaijan last year, was the first one of this kind in the Commonwealth and recommended by its the Inter-parliamentary Assembly as a model for CIS’s parliaments.
The 2006 budget has set aside AZM 45 billion to fund the relevant state Program starting this year.
