Baku, April 23 (AZERTAC). AN elderly woman died today of injuries suffered in a two-train head-on collision near Amsterdam that left over 100 hurt, Dutch media reported.

Amsterdam`s mayor, Eberhard van der Laan, offered his condolences to the family of the 68-year-old woman and wished the other victims a speedy recovery, according to a statement in De Telegraaf newspaper.

Dutch officials said 117 people were injured in the accident, 42 of them seriously, while 16 victims remained in the hospital today, AFP reported.

The crash occurred around 6.30pm local time on Saturday when a local train leaving Amsterdam hit a high-speed train on a bridge west of Amsterdam`s central station.

The trains were traveling slowly at the time, but witnesses described how the collision threw passengers from their seats or up against their windows, some of which had shattered.
