OPPOSITION SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR ITS DESTRUCTIVE ACTIONS
The meeting was opened by pro-rector of the university Shaiq Alasgarov.
Minister of Education Misir Mardanov spoke on successful results of the Presidential elections, and stressed the victory of Prime Minister Ilham Aliyev. Minister, expressed protest against vandalism, committed by destructive opposition on October 16 in Baku and put forward an offer to punish them for these crimes.
Rector of the university, Milli Majlis (Parliament) member, academician Ali Abbasov supported this offer and underlined that future specialists - economists wish to build and create, they would never join such venturesome actions.
Other speakers expressed their protest as well against destructive actions of opposition taken in the capital.

Dear compatriots,
An epoch making event took place on October 15, 2003 in public-political life of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Presidential elections basing on principles of democracy, in just and civilized conditions were held and Ilham Aliyev, the follower of the political school of brave and worthy son of Azerbaijani nation Heydar Aliyev, won at these elections with considerable advantage. We sincerely congratulate Mr. Ilham Aliyev on this occasion and wish him a good health, success in this important, honorable and responsible activity.
Monitors of OSCE, Council of Europe, CIS states have confirmed many times high activeness of people of Azerbaijan at the elections and the fact that voting was held in democratic and free conditions. Congratulations of heads of the leading world states to Mr. Ilham Aliyev, statement of the US Department of State on the elections in Azerbaijan is a real prove of the fact.
Dear compatriots,
Ability to take a defeat in political struggle speaks on the level of political culture. We have to underline with indignation that on October 16, 2003, “opposition” (Isa Gambar, Musavatists and their protectors), which had taken a destructive position from the very beginning, started disturbances, ignoring the law, caused bloodshed, tried to create anarchy in the country and to lead the country back to the situation of 1992, to capture the powers, to commit a state coup.
We, a many-thousand staff of the Economic University, call people of Azerbaijan to be watchful; to stop strictly dirty action of renegades, to united round Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
We demand that law enforcement organs of the republic took strict actions against such criminals, political speculators within the limits of the law and to attract the criminals to responsibility.
