PACE DECLINES NON-CONSTRUCTIVE, GROUNDLESS POSITION OF ARMENIANS
The August 28-September 6 visit of the PACE Culture, Science and Education Committee’s rapporteur on state of cultural heritage in South Caucasus Edward O’Haran (Great Britain) to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia has been again postponed, Milli Majlis press service told.
Azerbaijani side has always encouraged the mentioned Committee’s initiatives on study of state of cultural heritage on the Caucasus, including Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Nagorno Karabakh region and other occupied areas.
During the process of preparation for a trip non-constructive position of the Armenians who have put before the PACE the requirement about choice of route of the trip to the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, included in the project, from the territory of Armenia (on the car from Yerevan), has caused serious discontent of the Azerbaijan party.
In connection with this, the head of delegation of Milli Majlis to PACE Samad Seydov has stated to the Secretary General of the said structure Mateo Sorinas the official position of Azerbaijan, especially noting the fact of recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country by the international public, including such authoritative international organizations, as the United Nations, OSCE, NATO and the Council of Europe.
It has been noted, that for the delegations of both internal and international missions, expressing intention to go to Nagorno Karabakh and other territories of Azerbaijan under occupation, it is given the right to make a trip on the basis of the sanction of official Baku and only with passage through the territory, which is under the control of Azerbaijan. It is stated, that official Baku under no conditions will change this position.
Finally, the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly decided to postpone the visit of rapporteur due to the non-constructive and groundless position of the Armenians.
