PKK TERRORISTS KILL SIX TURKISH SOLDIERS

Baku, May 31 (AZERTAC). Six Turkish soldiers have been killed and several others injured as Kurdish militants launched a rocket attack near a navy base in southern Turkey.

The terrorist Kurdistan Workers` Party (PKK) fired rockets at a vehicle carrying soldiers to the naval base in the Mediterranean port of Iskenderun on Monday, the Associated Press reported.

Clashes erupted after the soldiers fired back at the militants.

According to the state-run Anatolia news agency, three of those wounded were in critical conditions.

The Turkish military, however, has not disclosed any information about the number of casualties on the militants` side.

The attack is the largest assault on the country`s military over the past weeks.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, including Turkey, Iran, the US, and European Union member states.

More than 40,000 people have been killed since the PKK launched its armed campaign against Ankara to establish a socialist Kurdish state in southeastern Turkey.
