PM Denkov commends Bulgaria’s recent progress fighting corruption

Over the last eight months Bulgaria has risen from the rock bottom of corruption, which it inhabited during the years of the Transition [since the fall of the communist regime in 1989], Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at the beginning of the weekly government meeting on Wednesday, reported Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
According to him, this is a truth that artificial scandals are trying to silence.
"Many interests of those untouchable by the law were affected by the interrupted corruption schemes and transparency measures of public spending. This is the reason for the constant attacks on the government and on some of the inconvenient ministers, which have intensified as the rotation approaches," Denkov said.
Later on Wednesday, Cabinet is to approve a memorandum of cooperation with Transparency International. “This document is a continuation of the main line in our governance programme: fighting corruption. It will enable us to transfer know-how and practical tools for good governance, quality assessment systems and transparency in dealing with public resources," the Prime Minister said.
