Possibility of TURKPA obtaining observer status within CIS IPA discussed

On January 27, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), Ambassador Ramil Hasan, met with Dmitriy Kobitskiy, Secretary General of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), on the margins of the 16th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on TURKPA’s institutional activities, as well as initiatives and projects implemented since 2008. They also discussed current regional and global political developments. Particular attention was paid to the role of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing contemporary challenges and contributing to the resolution of ongoing conflicts.
The meeting also focused on prospects for future cooperation between TURKPA and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, including the possibility of TURKPA obtaining observer status within the CIS IPA.
Dmitriy Kobitskiy expressed appreciation for TURKPA’s active role under the leadership of Ambassador Ramil Hasan. He emphasized the broad opportunities for enhancing cooperation in parliamentary diplomacy, expanding institutional experience-sharing, and implementing joint initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, stability, and the development of relations among friendly countries. He noted that continued collaboration between the two organizations could be mutually beneficial.
The parties agreed to consistently develop relations between TURKPA and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council across multiple areas of mutual interest and to consider the possibility of reciprocal visits.
