President of Dutch Senate: For Schengen, the justice from Romania must obey the European rules
Baku, February 23 (AZERTAC). The president of the Dutch Senate, Fred de Graaf, on Friday said, after the talks with his homologous Crin Antonescu, that in order to be part of the Schengen Treaty the justice from Romania must obey the European rules in the area.
"The MCV report mentions that, regarding the juridical aspects, Romania must accelerate and finalize the reforms, because you need these instruments inside the Schengen Treaty. You need a good criminal law, you need correct juridical procedures, a juridical system able to face the European rules.” said Fred de Graf, asked how he interpreted the results of the European Commission report and if he could still see a connection between MCV and the Schengen accession. He also admitted that in the MCV report, România received "a good mark" regarding the correct resolution in constitutional terms of the 2012 political crisis.
He stressed that the Schengen Treaty is important for the member states considering “the economic and political difficulties in Europe and the evolution in the Mediterranean area". "This is a complex situation and I am confident that, considering the information received from the colleagues from Romania, that your country is close to the end of this stage and we all hope that the moment when Romania will be able to access the Schengen space will come soon", he said.
The president of the Dutch Senate also stressed that the difference of opinion between Romania and Holland has not been, in the past years, related to the final purpose of the Schengen accession, but it has been related to the moment of the accession and the level of the country’s readiness. "The only talk we have is the moment, whether you are prepared or not or if you are almost ready, this is the question that we have been discussing in the past years.” said de Graaf.
On the other hand the Dutch official admitted that in terms of technical criteria, Romania is ready for the Schengen accession. "And from a technical perspective you are ready, this is sure.” he also said.
