Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili telephoned on January 22 to his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev to express his gratefulness for the assistance rendered following the breakdown in gas pipeline and electricity transmission line, which resulted in cut off supplies from Russia to Georgia. He noted that according to the Azerbaijani President’s instruction, delivery of gas and electricity to Georgia had been ensured immediately.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that the two brotherly peoples and countries would continue to support each other.
During the conversation, the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Georgia also exchanged views on prospects of bilateral political and economic cooperation, including in energy sphere, as well as touched upon a number of other issues of mutual interest.
