During the conversation, the Azerbaijani leader and the U.S. Secretary of State discussed various aspects of bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Ms. Rice appreciated Azerbaijan’s participation in the peacemaking operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo, and especially valued the country’s aid to neighboring Georgia during the recent energy crisis.
President Aliyev and Secretary Rice exchanged views on the current state and prospects of the talks to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorny Karabakh, and the coming meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia in France.
The Azerbaijan President especially stressed the U.S. role in the peace process, and expressed gratitude to its government for the efforts.
A number of other issues of mutual interest were touched upon during the telephone talk, as well.
