PROTEST MARCH ARMENIAN OPPOSITION
“This is a decisive day,” Viktor Dallakyan, the secretary of “Justice” opposition parliamentary faction said. Columns of opposition demonstrators would move towards Armenia’s regions to break through police cordons preventing opposition members from the provinces to arrive in Yerevan and join the march. The opposition is seeking Robert Kocharyan’s resignation because it considers him to be illegitimate because he seized power as a result of rigged elections in 2003. However, Armenia’s Constitutional Court ruled that the election results were legitimate after considering the opposition’ s lawsuit last year. At the same time, the Constitutional Court recommended holding a referendum on confidence in the authorities in the course of a year. With the deadline expired, the opposition is demanding that a plebiscite be called but the parliament hasn’t supported that initiative.
