QUESTIONS OF INTEGRATION OF AZERBAIJAN INTO EUROPE AND EURO-ATLANTIC STRUCTURES WIDELY DISCUSSED
As is stated, the Minister in detail informed the visitor on democratic reforms conducted in the country and the work done in the field of the state construction.
At the meeting, has taken place wide exchange of opinions on socio-political conditions in the country, priority directions of its foreign policy.
Having noted that Azerbaijan follows the policy of integration to Europe and the Euro-Atlantic structures, the Minister has stressed realization of cooperation with the NATO PfP program and the Plan of Activity of individual partnership, and also with the European Union within the framework of the Neighborhood Policy. The Minister has emphasized that the situation developed as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, occupation by Armenia of territory of 20 percent of the republic and becoming about one million of people as refugees and IDPs, became the main obstacle in the way of full establishment of democracy and political stability not only in the country, but also in all region, and thus on the way of policy of integration to democratic European family.
The sides had a wide exchange of opinions on economic reforms carried out in the country. Having noted the important geo-strategic position of Azerbaijan, the Minister in detail informed the visitor about energy projects being implemented in the country.
The visitor has been in detail informed on the course of preparation for parliamentary elections forthcoming in the republic and the tasks put at the Order of the President of Azerbaijan from October 25, 2005 “On the urgent measures connected to preparation and elections to Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic”. It has been marked that the tasks following from the Order, and also the “inked finger” mark are directed on maintenance at elections of the principle “one voter - one voice”.
At the meeting, also were exchanged views on other questions representing mutual interest.
