RECEPTION AT MILLI MAJLIS
Having warmly welcomed the guest, Chairman expressed his confidence that a newly appointed co-chairman would be stuck to objective position in resolution of Nagorno Garabakh problem, Milli Majlis press-service reports. Having highly appreciated the support of the Russian President in territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Murtuz Alasgarov noted that negotiations and signed documents in the course of reciprocal visits of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Heydar Aliyev is a new stage in development of inter-governmental relations.
Chairman of the Parliament noted that OSCE Minsk group activity in solution of the conflict is insufficient today, and dwelt on historical roots of this problem. In contrast to Azerbaijan, Armenia was recognized as a mono-republic. Ignoring the UN four resolutions and principles of the Lisbon summit, Armenia continues to carry out occupational policy.
Then, Murtuz Alasgarov said, “we support peaceful and just resolution of the conflict. If the negotiations have no effect, Azerbaijan will use other means to restore territorial integrity. We believe that OSCE Minsk group will stir up its activity and make a deserved contribution in peaceful solution of the conflict.
The guest expressed his satisfaction with detail information on Nagorno Garabakh conflict. It was noted that as new co-chairman of OSCE Minsk group he would do every effort for peaceful resolution of the conflict. On September 15, 2003, co-chairmen of the Minsk group dealing with solution of this problem will gather in Vienna, and later, after the upcoming Presidential elections in Azerbaijan, they are planning to visit the region.
The guest, who visited Azerbaijan four years ago, expressed his satisfaction with successes achieved in Azerbaijan in different fields within recent years.
Chairman of the Parliament Murtuz Alasgarov spoke on reforms carrying out in Azerbaijan, as well as on upcoming Presidential elections. He noted that October 15 elections with the participation of the international observers would be fully based on the principles of democracy meeting the world standards.
