Russian oil and gas portal publishes article on Azerbaijan’s domestic gas supply
Baku, August 25 (AZERTAC). Analytical piece entitled “Some 95 per cent of Azerbaijani population to be supplied with gas by the end of 2013. Good benchmark for Russia” was recently published on Russian oil and gas portal www.neftegaz.ru.
According to the article, on June 14, 2012, British company Global Services has won an open tender on gas supply and improvement of gas supply conducted by Azerigaz Production Association. The contract signed between the Azerigaz and Global Services means that 95 per cent of Azerbaijan will be supplied with gas by the end of 2013. The agreement provides for the installation of pipes and gas counters.
It is also planned to install 439,189 units of private gas regulators, gas-regulating 1162 cabinets and new gas control and monitoring equipment in 80 gas distribution stations.
“Currently gas supplies covers 76.2 percent of the country’s needs, so Azerigaz will have to try to increase it to 95 percent”, the article reads.
The author stresses that the situation with domestic gas supply in Russia is significantly worse, despite the construction of numerous gas pipelines. Today, the average provision of gas supply in Russia is 63 percent. In 2006, for example, the average gas supply rate was 53 percent. It turns out, that Russia would take about 15 years to reach the level that Azerbaijan intends to achieve by 2013.
