Silvia Venturini Fendi defends luxury

Baku, December 12 (AZERTAC). FENDI’s creative director Silvia Venturini Fendi has called upon the EU Commission to offer more support and protection to the luxury industry, especially in the current economic climate.

She asked at yesterday’s European Union Innovation Convention in Brussels that a strong Europe-wide intellectual property framework be put in place, WWD reports, to protect brands from imitation - and stressed the importance of the continent’s luxury labels for growth, jobs and economic recovery. European luxury products “embody the contrasting forces of tradition and creativity, past and future, that is unique to European culture,” she said.

Meanwhile, in line with the necessary austerity measures in the country, Italy’s new Prime Minister Mario Monti has imposed taxes on luxury items - like yachts, high-performance cars, private jets and helicopters - with immediate effect, although fashion has not yet been affected.
