The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has purchased Kulevi terminal located in the coastal area between the rivers of Tsiva and Xobi and the Georgian Black Sea coastline to provide the alternative transportation of oil and oil products via railway. Kulevi terminal will be used to receive, store and load crude and diesel onto the ships. The area of the terminal comes to 100 hectares.

SOCAR intends to construct an oil-refining plant here to refine oil to be transported to the coasts of the Black Sea in the future.

168 oil tank cars can simultaneously approach to the terminal through 4 railways. There is also a laboratory meeting international standards to check oil products, as well as a fleet consisting of 9 auxiliary service ships in Kulevi.

Reconstruction work has already started in the terminal. The construction of the railway belonging to SOCAR is going on here with a special platform for loading liquid being built too. The terminal, which will bring in close to ten million US dollars to Azerbaijan every year, will be put into operation in the second half of this year.
