South Sudanese Undersecretary: COP29 will help us implement our projects
Baku, November 11, ZERTAC
"I am grateful for inviting us to attend the high-level COP29 event hosted by Azerbaijan. The participation in this event is very important for us," Joseph Africano Bartel, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Republic of South Sudan, told AZERTAC.
According to him, the only thing, which is now missing, is the financing of the projects aimed at adapting the impacts of climate change.
“So, our expectations from the Baku-hosted COP29 is that the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance will be agreed upon, and would like to have the quantum to be in the trillions. Secondly, the most important spheres are capitalization and privatization of the loss and damage fund. We need that so that countries like ours, where more than 2 million people have been displaced by floods and droughts, can receive compensation,” he said.
“We hope that COP29 will help us implement our projects in this regard. Our primary focus is climate finance so that we try to get more funding for the implementation of adaptation and mitigation projects,” the South Sudanese Undersecretary added.
