SPEAKER MEETS OSCE SPECIAL ENVOY
The Speaker noted that Azerbaijan joined the OSCE in 1992, and since then has been closely cooperating with the organization. The legal and economic reforms being implemented in our country and its integration into Europe are highly valued by the OSCE and other international organization, but existing problems, especially the conflict with Armenian over Nagorno-Karabakh create serious obstacles to our development, he said.
Mr. Alasgarov informed the guest in detail about the reasons and consequences of the conflict stressing that Nagorno-Karabakh has converted into an uncontrolled zone, a home to terrorists. Noting with regret that the OSCE and other international organizations take the same approach both to an aggressor and its victim, he called on to take strong measures against the aggressor. Azerbaijan stands for peaceful resolution of the conflict in the framework of the international legal norms, and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be insured, the Speaker said.
Ambassador Philip Dimitrov noted for his part the OSCE highly values the reforms in Azerbaijan and its intention to integrate into Europe. The organization, according to him, realizes the seriousness of the situation in the region. He said the OSCE leadership seriously concerns over delay in finding solution to the conflict. Mr. Dimitrov expressed hope that new revival of the peace process would yield fruit.
The parties have also exchanged views of a number of other issues of mutual interest.
