STEF GORIS: “MAIN CONDITION OF SETTLEMENT OF THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT SHOULD CONSIST IN WITHDRAWAL OF ARMIES FROM AZERBAIJAN TERRITORIES”
Chairman of parliament has told: “Azerbaijan is interested in development of links with the West-European Union and its structures. We hope that present visit will serve expansion of relations. We know that the Assembly of the West-European Union attaches special significance to establishment of peace and safety on Southern Caucasus, and in this connection even prepares a report. You some days are in Azerbaijan, have familiarized with plight of refugees and IDPs. We trust, that in the report, which will be heard at session forthcoming in December, all seen by you will find the objective reflection”.
Chairman of Milli Majlis in detail informed visitors on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, its heavy consequences for the country, the resolutions accepted by Security Council of the United Nations, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the said problem, has reminded, that the question was seriously discussed and in Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE.
Mr. Stef Goris has thanked Mr. Alaskarov for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan and the rendered hospitality. S. Goris, having noted, that is pleased with the meeting carried out within the framework of visit with President Ilham Aliyev, has emphasized that ideas of the head of Azerbaijan state have made on him extremely positive impression. He has told: “In December of this year in Paris, the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on safety and defense will hold session of Assembly of the West-European Union. We also have invited President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to this action. He will address the session, and then we shall consider the problem of admission of Azerbaijan into this structure with the observer status. It would be desirable, that on the said action there was also deputy group of Milli Majlis.
At this session the report of senator Massore on the topic “Stability on Southern Caucasus” will be heard. Heavy, intolerable life conditions of the IDPs in Sabirabad have strongly shaken me. All seen by us will find the reflection in the report. In January of the next year, Belgium will preside in OSCE. I, too, am the Belgian and a member of party in power. Therefore, I shall draw attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country to the question and I shall ask to assist the fair settlement of the said problem. Today, the sides and the international organizations speak about settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of certain conditions. And the main thing, the major condition in settlement of the problem should become the withdrawal of armies from the Azerbaijan territories. Other questions can be discussed afterwards.
At the meeting, also has taken place the exchange of opinions on other questions representing mutual interest.
