Stone Plastic Art in Lachin

Stone Plastic Art of Lachin district is represented both by sheep and horse statues and by reliefs. One part of them were demonstrated in the local ethnographic museum where they were brought in 70-80s of the 20th century while the rest were left in places of their making. Inscriptions in Arabian on these figures contain information about when and in whose honor this tombstone was erected.
The local memorial topical reliefs carved mainly on chest-shaped gravestones. They consist of symbolic ornamental circles, pictures reflecting the local people’s everyday life and their occupations. Owing to many specific features, these reliefs form the genetic and style unity with stone carvings from the ancient cemetery located in the village of Urud resided by Azerbaijanians in the former Zangazur region.
