Strong explosive eruption Bezymianny volcano on Kamchatka
Baku, March 9 (AZERTAC). A strong explosive eruption of Bezymianny volcano (the "volcano without name") on Kamchatka began earlier in the day and is continuing. The volcano spewed ash up to 5 kilometers high, seismologists said, adding that the eruption does not pose a threat to population centers in the area.
With preliminary reports of ash at least to 33,000 feet, the volcano's activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft and climate because its eruptive clouds can rise to a height of 8-15 km ASL and extend for hundreds of kilometers from the volcano to different directions. It has been intermittently active since along with many others on the very tectonically active Kamchatka Peninsula.
According to researches, a plume is visible on Landsat imagery reaching flight level 270 (27,000 ft / around 9 km altitude) and extends 136 mi (220 km) to the north-east from the volcano.
One of the most active volcanoes in the world, Bezymianny is located 350 kilometers northeast of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka.
During its most powerful eruption in 1956, the 2,800-meter volcano ejected about three cubic kilometers of volcanic debris in a very short time.
