According to the information received by AzerTAj, on October 16, the Georgian President Eduard Shevarnadze called on the phone to Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

President Shevarnadze congratulated most cordially Prime Minister Ilham Aliyev on his confident victory at the Presidential elections and wished success in his activities.

Prime Minister Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to President Eduard Shevarnadze for sincere congratulations and underlined that he will go on his efforts in further development of friendly and cooperation relationships between the two countries.

During the conversation, President Eduard Shevarnadze especially pointed out the efforts and personal contribution of President Heydar Aliyev, the founder of Azerbaijani-Georgian relations. He expressed confidence that Ilham Aliyev, as a true follower of Heydar Aliyev’s political course, will go on and put into life the tradition of many-century friendly relations between the two nations.

President Eduard Shevarnadze expressed his readiness to support now an on the expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Ilham Aliyev assured about being stuck to political course of Heydar Aliyev and said that due to forth seeing policy and personal friendly relations between President Heydar Aliyev and President Eduard Shevarnadze, Azerbaijan and Georgia managed to found new independent states and gain international prestige.
