The impact of QWERTY on brain

Baku, March 16 (AZERTAC). Words which are spelled more with the letters that are on the right side of the keyword are linked with more pessimistic emotions than the words which are spelled more with letters on the left side of the keyboard, as per a research by the cognitive researchers like Kyle Jasmin from the University College London. Their work displayed for the initial time that there is association amid the meaning of words and the manner in which they are typed - an association they call the effect of QWERTY. Their research is printed online in a periodical. In the last few years, language was only spoken and hence it was subject to constraints on speaking and hearing. Now that the language is mostly generated by fingers - texting and typing - it is filtered by means of the keyboard.

As technology is advancing for generating language, these technologies shape the language for which they are designed to generate. Many words are spelled with maximum letters on the right side of the keyboard; others are spelled with words on the left side. In a sequence of experiments, the investigators researched if the dissimilarities in the way of words are texted corresponding to the dissimilarity in the meanings. Why do the positions of the letters matter so much? The authors recommended that as there are more letters on the left side of the keyboard midline rather than in the right side of the keyboard, letters which are on the right side might be easier to type and this will result in positive feelings. Linguistics have long realized that the meaning of words depend on their forms, an idea which is called the arbitrariness of the sign. However the QWERTY impact recommends that the written words can impact their meanings more.

The evolution of the typewriter is part of the ongoing history of the human need to communicate. The development of the typewriter was the result of a desire both to speed up this process and to produce an aid for the blind in reading and writing. Gradually a machine emerged that revolutionized the work of the writer. Painstaking tasks that were normally carried out by hand could be carried out in minutes on the machine, leaving time to enjoy the ‘finer things in life’. As the first Remington adverts declared; ‘To save time is to lengthen life’.
