TURKPA, TRNC Assembly explore cooperation

On November 20, Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), met with a delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) led by Secretary General, Ambassador Ramil Hasan.
During the meeting, the officials highlighted the significance of the activities carried out by the TRNC Assembly within the framework of its observer status at TURKPA in recent years.
Particular emphasis was placed on the successful outcome of the 1st Summit of Turkic Women Parliamentarians, held in the TRNC from 28 to 31 May 2025 under the auspices of the TURKPA Women Parliamentarians’ Group. They also underscored the importance and necessity of hosting similar international events and projects in the TRNC in the future.
TURKPA Secretary General Ramil Hasan stressed that the active participation of the TRNC Assembly and its initiatives will continue to receive full support from TURKPA in its upcoming activities, including plenary sessions, committee meetings, and informal gatherings of parliamentary speakers.
During the meeting, the Secretary General briefed the TRNC Speaker on key projects recently implemented by TURKPA and highlighted the high-level support extended to the TRNC by the Heads of State at the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held in Gabala under their leadership. He also emphasized the fruitful and dynamic cooperation established within the framework of the TRNC’s observer status in TURKPA and reiterated TURKPA’s readiness, within its mandate, to provide all possible support to the TRNC in its future activities.
The Secretary General further noted that under the leadership of the TURKPA Chairman-in-Office, Yerlan Koshanov, Speaker of the Majlis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, the Assembly had planned significant, strategic, and large-scale initiatives for 2026. He expressed hope that the TRNC delegation would actively participate in many of these initiatives.
In turn, Speaker Ziya Öztürkler expressed his sincere gratitude to the Secretary General for the comprehensive support provided by TURKPA and for his visit to the TRNC Assembly. He emphasized that the TRNC constitutes an integral part of the Turkish nation and expressed satisfaction with TURKPA’s activities aimed at strengthening ties within the Turkic World, as well as addressing the challenges faced by the TRNC within the framework of international legal norms. Öztürkler also expressed confidence that the support extended to the TRNC would continue in a consistent and sustained manner.
They also discussed future avenues for cooperation and potential joint initiatives.
