UN RECOGNIZES AZERBAIJAN’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY AND READY TO PROMOTE PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF NAGORNO KARABAKH PROBLEM
Speaker of the Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov met with Bruno Pouezat, the newly appointed UN resident coordinator to the country, 12 March.
Ogtay Asadov congratulated Bruno Pouezat with his new mission and wished success in his activity. The Speaker updated on the international relations of Azerbaijan, its links with UN structures, the accomplishments the Republic reached during the independent years, dynamic economic development, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its heavy consequences. Mr. Asadov also reminded the four Resolutions of the UN Security Council on unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian troops from the occupied areas, noting that the aggressor ignores the resolutions and demand of international community. The Republic of Azerbaijan still hopes for peaceful settlement of the problem in the framework of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and on the international law, the Speaker said.
The UN resident coordinator Bruno Pouezat expressed gratitude for warm welcome and the information provided. Azerbaijan’s economic development and other achievements are worth of note, he said. Sharing his views on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Bruno Pouezat said the conflict is, indeed, serious obstacle, noting that the United Nations recognizes territorial integrity of Azerbaijani and stands ready to promote the OSCE Minsk Group in peaceful settlement of the problem.
The parties had comprehensive exchange of views on a number of other questions of mutual interest.
