UN SECRETARY GENERAL’S REPRESENTATIVE MET LEADER OF AZERBAIJANI COMMUNITY OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH
Walter Kalin, UN Secretary General’s representative on the human rights of internal displaced persons, met on 6 April Nizami Bahmanov, leader of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Nizami Bahmanov said that he, as the community leader, participates in the talks on settlement of the conflict since 1992. He noted that his organization supports the efforts of the Azerbaijani President directed on peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Touching upon the unsatisfactory activities of the appropriate international organizations dealing with the settlement of the problem, the community leader said representatives of some organizations, including OSCE, Council of Europe and others, who visit the region, just limits their activities by making various statements. “They even can’t be unanimous among themselves, and sound different statements,” he stressed.
Walter Kalin, in his turn, said demand and claims of IDPs would be reflected in his report which would be submitted to UN Secretary General and related structures. The UN official expressed hope that internally displaced persons will return to their homelands soon.
