USA SUPPORTS SETTLEMENT OF THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT IN FRAMEWORKS OF AZERBAIJAN’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY
The United States supports fair peace settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Anne Derse, US ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated at the meeting with students taken place on March 12 at Khazar University.
Reminding four resolutions of the United Nations Security Council on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the diplomat noted that her country makes efforts directed on the solution of the problem within the OSCE Minsk Group.
Talking about the State Department’s annual report on human rights, Anna Derse touched upon the moments concerning Azerbaijan. The State Department’s report says Azerbaijan is the reliable defender of religious and ethnic tolerance.
Besides, some laws adopted in Azerbaijan directed on struggle against corruption, “National Plan of Action on protection of human rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan” decreed by President Ilham Aliyev, successes achieved in struggle against human traffic, and also the work directed on improvement of the legislation in connection with process of the country’s admission to the World Trading Organization are highly estimated in the document.
Expressing confidence that the government of Azerbaijan will continue democratic reforms, Anna Derse pointed out that in this field Azerbaijan cooperates with OSCE, the Council of Europe, NATO, the western countries, including with the USA.
Emphasizing the importance of parallel realization of economic and political reforms, the American diplomat added that development of democracy is connected with economic progress.
“The USA will continue the further cooperation with Azerbaijan in energy sector and the effective utilization of oil revenues will make huge positive influence on strengthening of Azerbaijan’s independence, improvement of the population’s welfare, development of economy”, she said.
