Viktor Chernomyrdin dies

Baku, November 3 (AZERTAC). Russia`s presidential advisor and a special envoy on economic cooperation with the CIS member states Victor Chernomyrdin died on Wednesday, his secretariat reports.

Chernomyrdin suffered from a chronicle disease and was expected to come back home after a treatment course abroad.

From 1992 through to 1998 he headed Russia`s government. He was one of Russia`s most respected and well-known politicians. Over his premiership, the country lived through the post-Soviet shock, a change of the social and economic order, the first war in Chechnya, the act of terrorism in Budenovsk and many other events.

For eight years Chernomyrdin was Russia`s Ambassador in Ukraine over the period of the so-called Orange Regime of Viktor Yushchenko.

When back from Kiev in 2009, he became a presidential advisor.
