Baku, December 14 (AZERTAC). In view of the fact that the technology of batteries is not evolving as fast as the electronic devices that operate on this basis, more and more devices require a variety of power sources - both large and small. Recently, a group of researchers from the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies at the U.S. National Laboratories Sandia has developed a power source, which is the smallest in the world.

Despite the fact that the word`s smallest battery is too small to feed the devices like mobile phone, in future it may serve as a basis for the creation of an entirely new sources of supply with low weight and thickness. Tiny reusable lithium battery consists of bulk lithium cathode with a length of less than 3 mm placed in an ionized liquid electrolyte. In addition, the battery has a tin oxide anode length of roughly 100 nanometers and a width of about 10 nanometers, which is almost 7,000 times thinner than a human hair, Cybersecurity reports.

According to developers, their battery is not fundamentally new device, but a significant improvement in the design of pre-existing systems.
