Baku, January 9, AZERTAC
Spain started testing the world's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled passenger train, according to the Spanish Ministry of Energy, Tourism and the Digital Agenda statement, according to Anadolu Agency.
The project is part of Spain's decarbonization plan that covers the usage of energy efficient railways while promoting vehicles using alternative energies in the country, the ministry noted.
The Spanish Minister of Energy, Tourism and the Digital Agenda Alvaro Nadal and the Minister of Development Inigo de la Serna attended the train's first pilot test in the northwestern city of Asturias.
On June 26, 2015, the Spanish government launched a new strategy to promote alternative energy vehicles between 2014 and 2020 in Spain, according to the country analysis of the International Energy Agency's Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technology Collaboration Program.
The strategy aims at making Spain a model country in spearheading alternative fuel vehicles such as LPG, natural gas, biofuels, hydrogen including electric technologies, according to the analysis.
The strategy focuses on three main lines of action - industrialization, market and infrastructure deployment, the IEA said.
