Sahil Garden - a green zone nestled within historical buildings VIDEO
Baku, November 27, AZERTAC
The next feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column focuses on the Sahil Garden.
Located in the heart of Baku, at the intersection of the Khagani Street, the Bulbul Avenue, the Uzeyir Hajibayli and the Rashid Behbudov Streets, in front of the Azerbaijan National Library named after Mirza Fatali Akhundzada, the garden is encircled by historical buildings.
Along the perimeter of the garden are buildings, commemorating the names of the Azerbaijani cultural figures. Azerbaijan’s genius opera singer and People's Artist of the USSR, Bulbul lived in one of the houses from 1937 to 1967. Dominating the center of the park is a stunning, three-stepped fountain. Its design, featuring massive, cup-like basins, is distinctly Oriental. The park is also a home to such long-lived tress as plane tree, ash tree, and palm tree.
The park, which has a total area of 22,000 square meters, underwent major renovations in 2009. A computer-controlled complex, designed by the Italian specialists, and consisting of 3 new fountains has been installed in the garden.
Local residents and guests of the Azerbaijani capital found peace and leisure in this modern recreation area in the center of the city.
The Sahil Garden has turned into one of Baku's most popular spots for both leisure and active lifestyle.
