Azerbaijani Defence Minister meets Chief of Turkish General Staff
Baku, April 1 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Minister of Defence, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov has today met Chief of the Turkish General Staff, Commander of the Turkish Army Necdet Ozel.
Prior to the meeting, a Turkish delegation led by Necdet Ozel visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The delegation also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
They also visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country’s independence and territorial integrity, and laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.
They also laid a wreath at the memorial to the Turkish soldiers.
The Commander of the Turkish Army then visited the Ministry of Defence to meet Minister Zakir Hasanov. He signed the honorary book of the Ministry.
Hasanov praised the bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey in the military field.
Touching upon military and political situation in the region, the Minister said that the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was a main threat to the regional stability, and stressed the importance of solving the conflict in compliance with the norms and principles of the international law.
Chief of the Turkish General Staff Necdet Ozel said that the bilateral ties between the two fraternal countries were based on historical roots and frank friendship traditions, adding Turkey is the important strategic partner of Azerbaijan.
They also discussed prospects for relations between armed forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey and other issues of mutual concern.
Commander of the Turkish Army, Chief of the Turkish General Staff Necdet Ozel was presented with the “For distinction in military service” order of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his contributions to strengthening the military cooperation between the two countries.
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismail Alper Coskun was also present at the meeting.
