BAKU TO HOST II INT’L ICT FORUM IN NOVEMBER
According to Minister of Communication and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Ali Abbasov, increase in prestige of Azerbaijan in the international arena for the last years has also contributed to the level of the country’s cooperation in the sphere of communication. After the contentful speech of President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev at the Information Society Summit in Geneva on 10-12 December 2003, geography of our links has extended, and the number of those wanting to cooperate with us has increased, the Minister said. The Ministry, he added, is already a member of a number of international organizations.
Mr. Abbasov also noted that the next summit would be held in Tunis in 2005, and that the first of the four forums envisioned between the summits, has been held recently in Hong Kong for Asian countries. I have been charged with one of the basic themes - Economic Problems of Information and Communication Technologies in Developing Countries, and considering prospective policy pursued by the Azerbaijan state in this direction, it was decided to conduct the second forum in Baku. A corresponding request has been submitted to our President for consent to host the UN forum and made a speech at the event.
