COORDINATING COUNCIL OF THE WORLD AZERBAIJANI AND TURKISH DIASPORA ORGANIZATIONS KICKS OFF IN GERMANY
The meeting of the Coordinating Council of World Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora Organizations commenced Tuesday in Berlin, Germany.
The event is held in accordance with the Baku Declaration adopted at the first forum of Heads of World Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora Organizations on March 9, 2007 in Baku, the State Committee for Working with Azerbaijanis Residing in Foreign Countries said.
The goal of the meeting is to determine outstanding tasks for development of cooperation between Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora organizations, and discuss new methods of informing the world community about the two peoples’ history and modern life.
Chairman of the State Committee for Working with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad Nazim Ibrahimov delivered a report on “Role of Diasporas in Developing Relationships among Turkish-speaking Countries”
Present and speaking at the event were chief of the President Administration`s socio-political department Ali Hasanov, Chairman of the Board of the World Azerbaijanis Coordinating Council Mahmud Karimov, Milli Majlis deputies Nizami Jafarov and Ganira Pashayeva, rector of the Baku Slavonic University Kamal Abdullah, President of the Congress of European Azerbaijanis Natig Agamirov, Chairman of the Benelux Azerbaijanis Congress Sahil Gasimov, President of the Assembly of Turkish American Associations Nurtan Ural, Chairman of the Society of American Azerbaijanis Tomris Azeri and others.
The meeting will elect Coordinating Council co-chairs and adopt the final documents. The statement on the 90th anniversary of the genocide committed against Azerbaijanis on March 31, 1918 is expected to be adopted at the event.
After the meeting, members of the Coordinating Council and guests will attend the opening ceremony of Azerbaijan Year in Germany at the Berlin Konserthauz.
The Coordinating Council was set up at the first forum of Heads of Azerbaijani and Turkish Diasporas. The Council has 101 members
