Czech ambassador lauds Azerbaijani Ombudsman’s human rights activities

Baku, May 6 (AZERTAC). Czech ambassador in Baku Vitezslav Piwonka has praised what the Office of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman is doing to strengthen the protection of human rights in the country.

He met Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova.

The ambassador said the Czech Republic was interested in furthering the cooperation with the Office of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman.

They discussed ways of improving the relations between human rights institutions in Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic.

Suleymanova highlighted the activities of the Ombudsman Office, saying it maintained cooperation with the United Nations, Council of Europe and European Union.

She said hearings were conducted in Azerbaijan`s regions to ensure the monitoring and implementation of the National Action Program on increasing the effectiveness of the protection of human rights and freedoms in the country.

Suleymanova also touched upon an annual international conference of ombudsmen organized in Baku.
