Delegation of Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor's Office attends international event in Pakistan

A delegation led by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Namig Asgarov attended the 3rd Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Attorneys/Prosecutors General Conference at Islamabad, Pakistan.

According to the press service of the Azerbaijan’s General Prosecutor's Office, addressing the event, Namig Asgarov hailed the development of rich and historical bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, further expansion of relations between the two countries as a result of political will of the heads of two states. He underlined that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation within the framework of the ECO, stressing the important work done to reinforce the organization.

Deputy Prosecutor General emphasized the importance of the third meeting of the ECO member states prosecutors, heads of specialized anti-corruption bodies and ombudsmen held in Baku on June 6-7 2017.

Delivering detailed information about measures taken in the country after the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 10, 2017 on improvement of operation of penitentiary, humanization of penal policies and extension of application of alternative sanctions and non-custodial procedural measures of restraint, Namig Asgarov highlighted the humanistic nature of the amendments to the Criminal, Criminal-Procedural and Penal Execution Codes.

Following the event, Azerbaijani delegation met with Pakistan's Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali, as well as held bilateral meetings with the delegations of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain met the heads of the delegations and exchanged views on the need for efficient cooperation between the prosecution authorities of the ECO member states in the fight against transnational crime.

Employees of the Azerbaijani embassy in Pakistan actively participated in the event.

Participants of the event adopted “ECO Islamabad Declaration”.
