Flamingos are wading birds, usually 0.9 to 1.5 m tall, found in both the Western and Eastern Hemispheres. Flamingos feed on shellfish and algae. There are 6 species worldwide and 1 species is in Azerbaijan.
Flamingos that live in Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus, on the coast of Europe’s Mediterranean Sea, winter in the Caspian Sea and all large internal water basins.
They live in salty lakes and sea gulfs. The reason of this is the expansion of crustaceans in salty waters, which are the main food of flamingos.
