Foreign Ministry: Armenia-Azerbaijan state border issue should be resolved without outside interference
Baku, September 23, AZERTAC
“As is known, the Republic of Azerbaijan is a country that has been subjected to invasion and aggression. The Armenian side used force to occupy 20 percent of the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including a 132-kilometer stretch of our border with Iran. For 30 years, the Iranian side has not expressed any attitude towards forceful change of the border,” said Leyla Abdullayeva, the head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan as she commented on the thesis of Iran’s civil and military officials that “changing borders in the region would mean crossing our red line”.
“At present, it is not known who such statements by Iran are meant for. As it is known, there are meeting formats of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders in Moscow and Brussels. Negotiations within these formats are continuing. As part of the negotiations conducted within these formats, the State Commission on Delimitation of State Border was established with the consent of both parties and its composition was agreed upon. We believe that Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, including the border issue between the two states, should be resolved without outside interference,” Leyla Abdullayeva said.
