As at today gas supply is available in 49 districts of Azerbaijan, which is about 75-85% of the total territory of the country. This was disclosed to journalists by the president of Azerigas CJSC, Alihan Melikov.

According to him, preparation work to get all the facilities ready for the 2003-2004 winter period. In the districts work has finished on repairs on the trunk gas pipelines. So far at the Kalmas and Karadag gas holders a total of 430 million m3 of gas out of the planned 500 million m3 has been stored for the current year.

Speaking about the payment for the supplied gas, the head of Azerigas said that collection of payment from the people in 32 districts of the country was around the level of 85%, while for the remaining 17 districts and city of Baku this index was 50%. From private enterprises and commercial organizations collection of payment for gas reach 90%, while the index for communal enterprises and state institutions financed from the budget is 50%

Mr Melikov also said that all the owners of greenhouses on the outskirts of Baku have been sent notices forbibbing them to use natural gas in the greenhouses during the winter period. The use of gas in these greenhouses create big difficulty in providing the people with gas.
