ICAO included Zangilan Airport in catalogue of international location indicators

Baku, January 28, AZERTAC

The State Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport has received a positive opinion from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regarding assignment of ICAO code for Zangilan International Airport under construction in Karabakh. The airport has been assigned an ICAO four-letter code UBBZ. This information will be published in the March 2022 issue of the ICAO Location Indicators (ICAO, Doc 7910/182) and it will be brought to the attention of the international community.

Director of the State Civil Aviation Agency Arif Mammadov highly appreciated ICAO’s recognition of another liberated city of Karabakh as a reliable partner: “The inclusion of Zangilan International Airport in the catalogue of international location indicators makes each of us feel proud. A new air hub is being created on the basis of the airports under construction in Karabakh and East Zangazur. Within a short time, Zangilan Airport will become one of the transport and transit hubs in the region.”

The construction and commissioning of Zangilan Airport, the construction of which commenced in April 2021, as another historic achievement, will connect the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with the main territory of Azerbaijan. It will also contribute to the creation of a large modern logistics hub in the region.
