Baku, January 13 (AZERTAC). “I would like to live a glorious life! My motto is “Never surrender,” Vugar Hashimov, European chess champion, three-fold Azerbaijan champion who died young said in one of his interviews. The world famous chess player who chose this motto as his lifestyle perhaps never thought that some time later he would mate the world with his death. The world has spoken about the untimely death of the young chess player for the past three days.
The first condolence was expressed by the International Chess Federation (FIDE)! FIDE extended its sympathies to the relatives of the Azerbaijani chess player and to the Azerbaijan Chess Federation.
The Wijk aan Zee tournament observed a moment of silence in memory of Vugar Hashimov.
Famous sport websites honored the memory of the Azerbaijani chess player and provided moves Hashimov made in his games.
His colleagues, friends, those who know and does not know him mourn his death and remember with sorrow the life of the renowned chess player.
Famous Georgian chess player Zurab Aymazparashvili said he was shocked to hear the news of his death. World champion Magnus Carlsen said Vugar was one of the most gifted players he has seen so far. Russian chess player Sergey Karyakin pointed out on a doleful note that he would continue to play instead of this gifted player. Ian Nepomniachtchi, Hikaru Nakamura and other famous players deemed it their duty to remember the Azerbaijani grand master on the reputable sport websites.
The body of the Azerbaijani grandmaster will be delivered from Germany`s Heidelberg clinic to Baku on January 14. A farewell ceremony will be organized the same day between 11:00 and 15:00 at the Chess Center. Hashimov will be buried in the second Alley of Honors.
