Italian Valeeva denied chance to win third gold

Baku, June 21, AZERTAC

Italian Natalia Valeeva was eliminated from the women's individual Archery competition on Sunday morning, ending her quest to win a third gold medal from as many events at the Baku 2015 European Games.

The no.3 seed upset came at the hands of no.30 seed Yuliya Lobzhenidze of Georgia, who won 6-2 in the opening match of the day at Tofiq Bahramov Stadium.

"I was lacking decisiveness, I was a bit low in tone," Valeeva said.

"These technical mistakes have been recurrent in this competition. I was unstable."

The 45-year-old won the mixed team event with Mauro Nespoli and the women's team title with Guendalina Sartori and Elena Tonetta.

She said her success at Baku 2015 was unexpected.
