LAW ENFORCEMENT BODIES OF GEORGIA AND AZERBAIJAN WORK IN CLOSE COLLABORATION
Greeting the guests, Mr. Ramil Usubov noted that relationship between Azerbaijan and Georgia, whose foundation has been laid by nationwide leader of Azerbaijan people President Heydar Aliyev and former President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze, became a firm basis for further cooperation. According to him, good contacts have also been established between the two countries’ law enforcement bodies. He pointed out efficiency of the cooperation gained for the last decade in combating crime, inquiry and capture of criminals in the framework of the Borjomi Four. The Minister noted as well that interaction of neighboring regions in fight against transnational crimes, illicit drug trafficking is on a due level. After the visit by Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili to Azerbaijan and his talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, a new impetus has been given to expanding bilateral relations in all spheres including cooperation of law-enforcement bodies.
Having thanked for the warm reception, Mr. G. Baramidze emphasized the role of outstanding political figure Heydar Aliyev in development of Azerbaijan-Georgia relationship. He said President Heydar Aliyev is highly valued in Georgia as a great son of Azerbaijan people and citizen of the Caucasus for his exceptional contributions to establishment of peace in the region.
The Georgian Interior Minister also announced his country’s intention to widen cooperation between law enforcement bodies and frontier troops. The guest stated that Georgia stands for reestablishment of contacts between Southern Caucasian countries and Russia in the framework of the Borjomi Four, and expressed opinion that it would contribute to fight against crime.
During the meeting, the parties have also exchanged views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
