Sofia, October 30, AZERTAC
The News Agencies World Council (NACO) has convened a meeting in Sofia. Organized by the Bulgarian news agency BTA, the meeting focused on preparations for the 6th News Agencies World Congress to be held in Sofia in 2019, and several organizational issues.

AZERTAC Director General, President of the News Agencies World Congress Aslan Aslanov stressed the importance of improving the work of the organization, making amendments to its statutes, and ensuring the Congress` accreditation by the United Nations and UNESCO. “I think that we have to speed up our efforts to ensure recognition of the Congress as an international organization by the UN and UNESCO and win their support.” “We certainly need to improve the structure and statutes of the Congress to obtain a legal status as an international organization,” he said.
He said that the 5th News Agencies World Congress, which was successfully co-organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and AZERTAC in Baku last November, became a favorable experience platform.
NACO President Clive Marshall, secretary general of the Congress Maxim Minchev, FANA secretary general Farid Ayar and others made remarks at the meeting.
Proposed by TASS, NACO members decided to hold the next meeting in Saint Petersburg in 2018.
AZERTAC currently holds the three year presidency of the News Agencies World Congress, and will be succeeded by BTA in 2019.
