OSCE CHAIRMAN TO ARRIVE IN AZERBAIJAN

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev now visiting New York to participate in the 58th Session of the UN General Assembly, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Holland, OSCE Acting Chairman Yaap de Hoop Scheffer, September 25.

The meeting was focused on the issue of settlement of Nagorno-Garabakh conflict. Minister Vilayat Guliyev updated the Chairman in detail on the existing situation and stance of Azerbaijan.

In the course of the conversation, the parties held a thorough exchange of views on how to speed up the resolution of the conflict in the framework of OCSE, to make Armenia abandon its aggressive intentions and achieve peace and stability in the region. Vilayat Guliyev mentioned the occupied territories of Azerbaijan are used for drug and people trafficking, trade of weapons and burial of dangerous waste.

The parties as well touched upon the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. Minister Guliyev let Mr. Scheffer know that all necessary work for the elections to be transparent, democratic and just. They also agreed on Minister of Foreign Affairs of Holland, OSCE Acting Chairman Yaap de Hoop Scheffer’s visit to Azerbaijan in late October.
