The presidential elections in Azerbaijan on October 15 were widely covered in the Turkish mass media. On October 16, state and private channels aired 8 programs dedicated to the elections all day long. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ankara Mammad Aliyev was also invited to the program. Leader of “Musavat” party Isa Gambar participated on telephone line. When a famous Turkish journalist and political correspondent Mehmet Ali Birand asked them to share their views on the elections Isa Gambar spoke of the pressure and violations. In response to this challenge, the ambassador stressed that exactly Musavat representatives commit irregularities by putting pressure on electors in some polling stations and committing disorders following the elections. He noted that Azerbaijan people voted for democracy, stability, priority of legal norms and observers from many countries verified the elections as democratic, free and transparent. Stressing that musavatists use the bolshevik’s tactics the ambassador noted that they do not wish progress, welfare to Azerbaijan, they try to push the country down to the abyss of anarchy and chaos. Turkish channels TRT-1, TRT-2, CNN-Turk, NTV, KANAL-D, Samanyolu-TV, Kanal-8 paid a special attention to this statement.
On October 17, influential Turkish newspapers “Milliyet”, “Zaman”, “Aksham”, “Turkiye”, “Takvim” covered the early returns of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, congratulation letters sent to Prime Minister Ilham Aliyev and attempts of opposition to break the order in Baku. In the article under the headline “Heydar Aliyev», political correspondent of “Zaman” newspaper Enes Jansever pointed out to invaluable services of the experienced and wise statesman in the protection of country. Hoping that Azerbaijan people will further go the way pointed out by the outstanding political figure the author stresses the incompetence of opposition leaders and the fact that they resigned being frightened by difficulties. The people do not want to endure that period and support Heydar Aliyev’s political course, which stood the test of history.
