Qatar top diplomat expects 2022 FIFA World Cup to change global opinion of Arab countries
Baku, November 23, AZERTAC
The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will change the West’s perception of Arab countries, and will be the best event in the history of global championships, Qatar Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has told an international conference in Rome, TASS reported.
"The World Cup in Qatar will change the West’s perception of the Arab world, namely the opinion that our region is the region of war, extremism and conflicts," the Asharq news portal quoted him as saying. "Our country is looking forward to the 2022 World Cup, which will be an example and a message of peace."
He also invited "people of Saudi Arabia and its leaders" to visit the event.
"We will ensure the best organization of the championship in its entire history," he said.
In 2022, Qatar will become the first country in the Middle East to hold the FIFA World Cup. For the first time, the event will be held in winter (between November 21 and December 18). Matches will take place in stadiums in seven cities on Qatar's eastern coast: Doha, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Shamal, Umm Salal, and Lusail.
