RECEPTION AT MILLI MAJLIS
Greeting the guests, the Chairman of Milli Majlis said Estonia was one of the first states to recognize independence of Azerbaijan. In the passed years, the Country has been admitted to a number of international organizations, and the Azerbaijani parliamentarians closely cooperate with representatives of Estonia at these structures.
“President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev has headed the parliamentary delegation of the Country at PACE, was Deputy Chairman and Bureau member of this international structure. In this period the delegations of both countries had similar positions in many questions”, Mr. Alaskarov said.
Then, Speaker of Milli Majlis informed the delegation on the accomplishments reached in the Republic in the field of civil, legal, democratic state building since 1993 under the guidance of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. It was noted that a year has elapsed since Ilham Aliyev was elected as President. And the constructive works in this period arouses fair pride. The prospects will be more optimistic, the Speaker stressed. In the coming years, 600 thousand of working places are expected to open.
In the course of conversation, were focused some problems as well. One of the difficult questions Azerbaijan faces is occupation of a part of the Country by the Armenian aggression as a result of which one million of countrymen have become refugees and IDPs. “Our country adheres peaceful settlement of this conflict and in the frame of international legal principles”, Mr. Alaskarov emphasized.
Expressing gratitude for sincere reception, Mr. Marco Mikhelson gave high value to the links between Estonia and Azerbaijan, mutual visits of parliamentarians of both countries.
Estonia is a member of the European Union and NATO, the guest said. “We, therefore, want to know real situation in the South Caucasus. On this purpose, we have visited Georgia and Armenia, and now we are visiting your country. Then, we shall visit Turkey”.
Head of the Estonian Parliament said his country had established normal relations with neighbors. And, thus, Estonia’s development was possible in democratic way. “We want the problem be settled peacefully and in the frame of international principles”, he said.
The parties also exchange views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
