RUSSIAN PRESIDENT ATTENDED OPENING OF MILITARY BASE IN KYRGYZSTAN
At the Government House, President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev and Vladimir Putin had a meeting, where discussed were issues of political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, ensuring security, actual problems of bilateral and multilateral relations. The two presidents touched upon significant problems of the international situation.
Askar Akayev and Vladimir Putin opened Russian air-force base in the city of Kant near Bishkek.
In his remarks, A. Akayev noted: “For Kyrgyzstan, Russia has always been and is an ally. The air-fore base in Kant will play a great role in ensuring peace and stability in the region of Central Asia. Henceforth, this little piece of land of Alatau will become a guarantee of the regional security.”
President of Russia Vladimir Putin also took part at the Russian-Kyrgyz investment forum in Bishkek, conferred spouse of President of Kyrgyzstan, president of international charity Fund “Merim”, Mayram Akayeva with the “Friendship” Order.
