SOCAR DELEGATION VISITS USA TO GET FAMILIAR WITH OIL MUSEUMS’ EXPERIENCES

Azerbaijani delegation led by Khalig Mammadov, the Human Resources and IT Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) visited USA to get familiar with the experiences of the oil museums functioning in the world countries in the hope of developing a similar museum in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The decision to build such a museum dedicated to Azerbaijan’s petroleum industry was recently formalized in a decree signed by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

Hosted by Washington «American Oil & Gas Historical Society», the delegation includes Pro-rector of Azerbaijan Art Academy Jalil Huseynov, Azada Huseynova, head of Museum Affairs Department at Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Amina Malikova, Head of International Relations Department of the Museum Center and Teymur Mahmudov, SOCAR official.

On the sidelines of the visit, Azerbaijani delegation toured to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum in Galveston, Texas Energy Museum in Beaumont and the Spindletop/Gladys City Boomtown Museum and familiarized themselves with the exhibits.

The delegation also visited Dallas-Fort worth Museum of Science and History, Nature and Science Museum, museum at the Oklahoma History Center, Devon Energy Oil and Gas Park and familiarized themselves with the equipments of the museums.

They also participated at the meeting held in the Geophysics Society and Geophysicists Geosciences Center in Tulsa and Bartlesville cities of Oklahoma and museum of the «Conoco Phillips Petroleum» Company.

The Azerbaijani delegation also got acquainted with the New Conoco and Maryland Oil museums in Ponca City, Cherokee Regional Museum, as well as «Ames Astrobleme» oil museum.

During the meeting, the American specialists highly praised the efforts to develop an oil museum in Azerbaijan and informed the Azerbaijani representatives about the USA oil museums’ work principals and their activity.

The Americans stressed that they would do their bests to assist Azerbaijan in developing of the oil museum.

Under the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation informed the American specialists about Azerbaijan, history of the oil industry in the country, as well as work done in the field of creation of the oil museum.

The Azerbaijani delegation also participated at the meetings held in the Houston-Baku Sister City Association in Houston city, Raindrop Turkish House and met with the SOCAR students studying in the prestigious USA Universities.
